About PRO Coop
Pro Cooperative is a farmer-owned cooperative based in northwest Iowa, dedicated to building lasting partnerships through proactive, progressive, and professional service. Its mission centers on delivering premier services to every customer by fostering personalized relationships, offering whole farm solutions, and applying advanced technical knowledge. The cooperative upholds core values of trust, service, fun, and safety, striving to earn trust daily, serve with respect, cultivate a positive team spirit, and ensure the safety of its people. The roots of Pro Cooperative trace back to 1911 with the establishment of the Farmers Co-operative Company of Bradgate. In 1912, the Gilmore Grain and Elevator Company was organized. Following the 1922 Capper-Volstead Act, both companies reorganized into true cooperatives. Over the years, they expanded by acquiring additional properties and storage facilities. In 1969, the two cooperatives merged to form a single entity known as the Farmers Co-operative Company of Bradgate. This merger marked a significant step in unifying their operations and enhancing service to their members.
In 1991, the cooperative underwent a rebranding, changing its name to Pro Cooperative with the addition of the Rutland Elevator Company. Subsequent mergers in 1996 and 1998 expanded its reach to include Pocahontas, Havelock, Plover, and Manson. A significant merger in 2009 with Farmers Cooperative Elevator Company added five more locations: Ruthven, Graettinger, Terril, Wallingford, and Milford’s Soy Solutions. That same year, the corporate headquarters moved to Pocahontas, Iowa, centralizing operations within the trade territory. In 2013, Pro Cooperative expanded its feed business by constructing a feed mill and grain elevator facility in Ayrshire, Iowa. The cooperative continued to grow, acquiring Houseman Oil Company in Estherville in 2017. Today, Pro Cooperative serves 12 counties in northwest and north central Iowa, continually investing in communities, people, and facilities.
Pro Cooperative operates across four primary business units: agronomy, grain, feed, and energy. Its agronomy services include seed selection, financing options, precision agriculture technologies, and soil temperature monitoring. The grain division offers comprehensive logistics and marketing services through 14 grain locations, providing resources such as cash bids, futures information, and grain marketing strategies. The feed division supplies both bulk and bagged feed products, catering to various livestock needs with customized programs and risk management solutions. The energy division provides premium fuels, auto services, lubricants, dust control solutions, and propane services. Through these integrated services, Pro Cooperative remains committed to supporting the success and growth of its members and communities.
