About Nexus

Nexus Cooperative is a member-owned agricultural cooperative serving northern Iowa and southern Minnesota, formed in February 2024 through the merger of two long-standing organizations—Northern Country Cooperative and Viafield. Built on more than 125 years of cooperative legacy, Nexus exists to provide trusted expertise and dependable service in agronomy, energy, feed, grain, and lumber. With a team of over 250 employees, Nexus is committed to supporting the success of its farmer-members and rural communities.

The roots of Nexus stretch deep into Midwestern agriculture. Its legacy includes early cooperatives like Farmers Cooperative Exchange of Rockford, established in 1891, and the Northwood Cooperative Elevator founded in 1911. The co-op’s evolution over the decades through numerous strategic mergers has allowed it to adapt to changing market needs while maintaining strong ties to its members. The formation of Nexus Cooperative is the latest chapter in a long-standing tradition of farmer collaboration and innovation.

Governance at Nexus is led by a 12-member board of directors elected annually by the cooperative’s membership. Working alongside the Senior Leadership Team, the board ensures that the organization remains member-focused and forward-looking. The leadership team, including CEO Jason Schwenneker and COO Derrick Davis, guides Nexus with a vision rooted in service, sustainability, and community strength.

Nexus Cooperative is more than just a provider of agricultural products and services—it's a partner in the long-term viability of local farming. Through education, investment in infrastructure, and community engagement, Nexus aims to create lasting value for its members. The co-op actively seeks out ways to incorporate new technologies, improve operational efficiency, and respond to the evolving challenges faced by today’s producers.

As agriculture continues to advance, Nexus remains committed to growing stronger together with its members. Whether it's through grain marketing strategies, precision agriculture tools, or dependable energy services, Nexus provides the support farmers need to thrive in a competitive and ever-changing industry.
