About New Vision Coop
New Vision Coop's history reflects a century-long commitment to agricultural communities across southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa, and eastern South Dakota. Its origins date back to the early 1900s with the formation of several local cooperatives: Mountain Lake (1901), Jeffers (1904), Heron Lake (1904), Windom (1905), Worthington (1910), Brewster, Dundee (before 1914), Org (1914), and Reading (1914). These cooperatives initially focused on handling commodities like coal, twine, various grains, and even cement in Windom.
In 1968, a significant consolidation occurred when the cooperatives from Worthington, Org, Reading, Brewster, and Dundee merged to form Consolidated Coop. Later, in 1986, Mountain Lake, Heron Lake, Jeffers, and Windom combined to create Prairieland Coop. These mergers aimed to strengthen resources and better serve their farming communities.
The pivotal moment came in 1998 when members of Consolidated Coop and Prairieland Coop voted to merge, resulting in the formation of New Vision Co-op. This union was driven by a forward-thinking approach, recognizing that a larger cooperative would be better positioned to provide enhanced services, advanced technology, and competitive markets to its members. Notably, this merger was not prompted by financial distress but by a shared vision for future growth.
Since its inception, New Vision Co-op has experienced substantial growth through strategic mergers and acquisitions. In 2003, Hills–Beaver Creek Coop merged into New Vision, followed by Wilmont–Adrian Coop in 2011. The cooperative also expanded its infrastructure by constructing new facilities, such as the Magnolia elevator and feed mill in 2012. In 2023, New Vision further extended its capabilities with the purchase of a feed mill in Mankato.
Today, New Vision Co-op operates 18 locations, serving over 2,000 member-owners. The cooperative remains dedicated to its mission: "New Vision Co-op is a progressive, ethical cooperative providing quality goods and services and innovative technologies, with the vision to remain financially strong, competitive in the marketplace and committed to its members’ success." Guided by core values of safety, integrity, unity, ownership, progressiveness, and community, New Vision Co-op continues to support and advance the interests of its agricultural stakeholders.
