About Kanza Coop
Kanza Coop has a storied history that reflects its dedication to serving the agricultural communities of Kansas. Established in 1915 by a group of Pratt County farmers as the Iuka Cooperative Exchange, the cooperative aimed to support local farmers by purchasing its first grain elevator in Iuka for approximately $3,100 in 1919.
Throughout the 20th century, Kanza Coop demonstrated resilience and adaptability. During the challenging times of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, the cooperative not only endured but also expanded its facilities. In the 1950s, embracing agricultural innovations, Kanza began supplying dry and liquid fertilizers, contributing to a significant increase in wheat production among its members. The cooperative's infrastructure grew with the construction of a 100,000-bushel concrete elevator in 1946 and a 300,000-bushel concrete elevator in 1961.
The latter part of the century saw strategic expansions through mergers and acquisitions. In 1981, Kanza completed its first merger with Pratt Equity Exchange, followed by acquiring Dillwyn Grain and Supply Co. in 1991, which included facilities in St. John. The early 2000s marked further growth with the merger of Zenith Co-op in 2000, leading to the cooperative's rebranding as Kanza Cooperative Association in 2001. The cooperative continued to expand by merging with Andale Farmers Cooperative in 2016, uniting farm families across Pratt, Harvey, Stafford, and Sedgwick counties.
In 2024, Kanza Coop further strengthened its presence by completing a merger with Farmers Cooperative Elevator Company of Garden Plain. This strategic consolidation aimed to enhance operational efficiency, customer service, and value return to members. The leadership from both cooperatives recognized the synergies and potential benefits, leading to the successful unification.
Today, Kanza Coop remains committed to its foundational principles of commitment, service, integrity, and community support. The cooperative offers a comprehensive range of products and services, including grain, agronomy, energy, feed, and logistics, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of its members. By reinvesting in local communities and providing quality employment opportunities, Kanza Coop exemplifies its dedication to building up people, businesses, and communities, ensuring a resilient and prosperous future for rural America.
