About Heartland Coop
Heartland Co-op supports farmers across Iowa and the surrounding region. The cooperative is farmer-owned and based in Clive, Iowa. Its mission is to help farmers produce and market profitably. Heartland operates multiple divisions including Grain, Agronomy, Feed, Energy, Conservation, and Holganix biological programs. The roots of Heartland run back to the early 1900s. The current cooperative took shape in 1987 when several local co-ops merged to gain more strength in grain marketing. Since then, Heartland has kept growing through new sites and mergers. Today it serves members through 71 locations across the state. The co-op reports more than 5,800 members who rely on these services.
Through the 1990s and 2000s, Heartland added grain and agronomy locations across central and eastern Iowa. Major steps included new facilities, added storage, and expanded agronomy support. Each move focused on giving farmers better access, faster handling, and more marketing options.
Heartland also invests in large projects that improve flow and speed. In 2015 it built a 4.4-million-bushel grain terminal at Fairfield with high-capacity receiving, drying, and shuttle loading on BNSF. In 2016 it began operating the Wever, Iowa, facility under a lease agreement, adding more rail and river reach to its grain network.
The footprint has moved beyond Iowa as well. In 2018 Heartland added Nebraska agronomy locations. In 2020 it acquired sites in Texas and New Mexico to support area grain, dairies, and feedlots. In 2024 it bought BB&P Feed & Grain in Winterset. In 2025 it opened a new 5-million-bushel grain facility at Millerton, Iowa, and expanded again in West Texas with a hub adding 18 million bushels of storage.
